Staff members from the Special Education Division presented the Comprehensive Coordinated Early Intervening Services Plan (CCEIS) which was passed by the Board in September. This service plan is designed to provide special education services for students who suffer emotional disturbance.
Ms. Melissa Erdmann and Mr. Dustin Hildebrand from Unified Champion Schools spoke about various partnerships with school districts and how their model promotes social inclusion through Unified Sports, Whole School Engagement activities and Youth Leadership and Advocacy Opportunities. Overall, 2,821 school districts in the United States and 7,868 schools have benefited from this opportunity.
Ms. Ping Ho, Founder and Director of UCLA Arts and Healing, shared how her program, which focuses on social emotional arts and mental health, have provided innovative and unique experiences and opportunities for both students and parents during distance learning. They serve all ages and underserved populations, such as those living with challenges of trauma, illness, special needs or social isolation.
Lastly, Ms. Mayra Zamora, Community Advisory Committee Chairperson shared comments from CAC members regarding the IEP process and the return to school as well as feedback on improving parent communication.
