  • Approved 13 Board District Priority and Region Priority Projects including 13 Board District priority and region priority projects totaling $1,155,491: Columbus ES – providing exterior lunchtables and benches, Stagg ES – Columbus ES – providing exterior lunchtables and benches Van Nuys MS
  • Schmerelson, Dr. Rivas – Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month – Recognizes September as Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month and National Suicide Prevention Week from September 8-14, requests the superintendent’s staff report to the COW within 120 days on improvements and progress made on distributing mental health resources to all students, and establishes greater resources to students, staff, and families to survivors of suicide attempts.
  • Schmerelson, Ms. Goldberg – Observing October 6 as World Cerebral Palsy Day: Cerebral palsy, the most common childhood physical disability, affects around 10,000 babies born annually in the U.S. The District is committed to enhancing accessibility for students with cerebral palsy, including infrastructure improvements and support services. The district recognizes the importance of early intervention, strategic partnerships with regional centers, and support groups to assist families in managing cerebral palsy, despite challenges like limited therapy service options. LAUSD will observe October 6 as World Cerebral Palsy Day, promoting awareness, inclusivity, and education through campaigns, staff training, and ability awareness activities in schools, aiming to foster a culture of acceptance and respect for all students.
