Here’s what happened at the Special Education Committee on 3/6/24

  • We had two presentations with the first being on the district’s push for an alternate pathway to diploma for students with severe cognitive disabilities.
  • We learned about SB 74 and the workgroup that came from that bill that examined how to best implement these alternative pathways.
  • These diplomas would still have to meet requirements into English, Math, PE, 130 credits, and ethnic studies forthcoming by 2030.
  • There will be parent information sessions forthcoming.
  • Our second presentation was a Mid-Year Instructional Update.
  • iReady participation is moving at a steady pace with 92% participation in math and 83% participation in Reading for students with disabilities.
  • Coaching walkthroughs are being done now to help teachers and provide them feedback on lessons.
  • There are also monthly regional support meetings that will be held for the 2024-25 school year.
  • Our next and final meeting will be on May 1, 2024 at 5:00 pm.
