Board President Schmerelson opened the meeting with a statement related to the presence of Homeland Security personnel at two LAUSD schools.
Next, the Superintendent presented recognitions for the Classified Employees of the Year: Brian Leon, Douglas Lindsay, Isaac Romero, Jorge Jimenez, Karla Berruz, Myra Encarnación, Rosa Quintero, Benjamin Magallon and Olfa Omri.

Resolution: Aligning Site-Based Professional Development, Collaboration, and Decision-Making in the Community School and Pilot Models
- Resolution calls for:
- Community School Local Leadership Council will be deciding all site-based professional development.
- Community Schools Steering Committee will create a Community School Professional Development subcommittee to support their professional development that aligns with assets and needs.
- CSSC will appoint two LAUSD representatives and two UTLA representatives to serve on the subcommittee.
- Wants everything ready for 2025/26 SY
Resolution: Parental Package: LAUSD as an Equitable Employer of Choice for Thriving Families
- Resolution calls for:
- LAUSD will commit to being an employer of choice and respect family planning, pregnancy, family leave, parental leave, the ability to recover, return to work, access to lactation spaces.
- Early learning and care from 0-5 years old including seeking partnerships with non-profits and cost-savings for affordable childcare.
- Education from pre-school through college and encourage employees to utilize LAUSD early ed centers.
- LAUSD will consent to EEO and privacy laws to evaluate data on general employee demographics, average time taken off by staff for pregnancy, family, child illness, prenatal care, and if those days are paid/unpaid.
- Wants a presentation by November 2025 at a board meeting or COW.
Recognizing May 2025 as National Foster Care Youth Awareness Month
- Resolution calls for:
- LAUSD Board to declare May 2025 as Foster Care Youth Awareness Month and recognize the unique needs of foster children while calling for empowerment campaigns for them.
