The Board approved the following resolutions sponsored by Board President Schmerelson.
Board President Schmerelson was joined by Board Vice President Dr. Rocio Rivas and Board Member Newbill in sponsoring the resolution “Workplace Readiness Week in California High Schools”.
The resolution:
- Designates an AB 800 Coordinator to lead Districtwide implementation of Workplace Readiness Week and worker-rights education
- Provides PD and two annual trainings (per semester) for counselors, CTE/Work Experience educators, APs handling work permits, and 12th-grade Social Studies teachers, and
- Distributes workers’ rights materials via Schoology/LMS and posts UC Labor Center “Know Your Rights” posters in all secondary counseling offices.

October 2025 as National Principals Month
- That the Governing Board of the Los Angeles Unified School District hereby proclaims the month of October 2025 as National Principals Month, but every day of every month, we recognize, commend, and appreciate our principals for being the frontline leaders who are the heart, soul, and backbone of our District family; and
- That Los Angeles Unified School District recognizes and thanks the Association of California School Administrators Region 16 and the Associated Administrators of Los Angeles/Teamsters Local 2010 as a fundamental labor partner, advocating for greater treatment for their members as well as helping establish strong leaders for our communities.

Ms. Gonez, Dr. Rivas, Schmerelson – Support for The Election Rigging Response Act (Proposition 50) which:
Declares LAUSD’s strong support for Prop 50 to ensure fair congressional maps in CA (2026–2030) in response to partisan gerrymandering elsewhere. The resolution encourages eligible students and families to make a plan to vote and engage with ballot measures impacting schools and communities.

Ms. Ortiz Franklin, Ms. Newbill, Ms. Griego, Schmerelson – With Survivors, Always: Domestic & Dating Violence Prevention, Awareness and Support
Recognizes October annually as Domestic Violence Awareness Month; affirms comprehensive, culturally responsive prevention and survivor supports.
- Directs expanded education via Every School Safe modules, student-informed instruction, Family Academy sessions, added staff PD, and promotion of hotlines/resources.
- Strengthens employee supports (leave, confidentiality, referrals) and builds partnerships through MOUs; Superintendent to report back by Feb 2026 (Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month).

Additionally, the Board approved the following items:
Renaming of Daniel Pearl Senior High Journalism & Communications Magnet to Daniel Pearl Film and Media Arts Magnet
- The purpose of the renaming is to give a more accurate description of the school’s program offerings, which include film production, broadcast journalism, digital storytelling, media arts, and multimedia.
- The committee to rename the school was formed in February 2025 and included parents, teachers, students, and community members.
California State University, Northridge – Contract to implement the Summer Math Academy in Region North (all in BD3 – Schmerelson) at these schools:
- Cleveland Charter HS
- Northridge Academy HS
- Canoga Park HS
Contract with City of LA’s Economic and Workforce Development department to help support adults in communities with high barriers to education and career advancement. The services provided with this funding will be available through 14 WorkSource Centers and all 11 DACE schools
Contract with Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Case Managers at YouthSource Centers. Provides a navigator program to historically marginalized youth ages 16-24 to overcome systemic barriers. All 11 DACE schools will be served. The services include referring 802 youth to DACE classes and YouthSource Center services.
UCLA Center X
- Provides AP readiness services for high school students districtwide for math, computer science, social studies, languages other than English, and English.
- The program will be available in both in-person and online variations for students and teachers involved in AP programs.
- A total of 16 training sessions will be available throughout the school year, with 8 being in STEM and 8 in the humanities.
- All high school students will have access to these services, and the target is 1,500 students per session.
Award of Advertised Construction Contracts
- Will provide the best value in video surveillance systems, monitoring, and IP-enabled intrusion systems for Calahan ES, Dixie Canyon Community Charter, Melvin ES, Parthenia Academy of Arts and Technology, Porter MS, Porter Ranch Community School, Van Nuys ES, Vintage ES Magnet, Woodlake ES Community Charter
